California 11/25-12/1/06

One of the views from Allen and Randy's Ranch

On a clear day you can see the coastal mountains..something like 300 miles away!

Some of the granite outcroppings

The road, no pavement or gravel needed

Allen supervising the pond plans             The first dig

It doesn't look much like a pond, more like a mudhole

We dug, and dug, and dug some more... The ground was loose on top, but like concrete further down.  No Pennsylvania clay here!

Finally, the hole is finished; complete with shelves.

Now for the liner, and waterfall....

Approaching completion...no thanks to that darn cat, Sandy!  I almost mortared him into the waterfall.

Allen and Randy took me to Shaver Lake, about 45 minutes from their home for dinner.  Breathtaking scenery!

Each day I would take a walk down to see the goats.  They have some of the best colored angoras in the country!

Apparently, that tree is actually an oak... doesn't look like any oak you'd see out east.

A pen of intense colored does                             The goat barn

Eureka! Warlock and his herd of does              I forget this buck's name, but I do remember Donkey's is Wade

Some pictures of my favorite goats: a really intense red/brown doe, Kenya a yearling buck, and check out the luster on that last doe!

I had a great time; we just wish Michael didn't have to work, and we could have finished the entire pond before I left.  There was an issue with the waterfall, so Randy and Allen are working to change the fall to fix the problem.  I knew that I missed having the goats, but spending time with their herd reminded me just how MUCH I miss having the goats.  Allen and Randy have a beautiful ranch and are great hosts!
